Cherries #2

Cherry Berry On a Cloud (I had a dessert recipe with that name once upon a time.)

I must admit, this is one of my favorite quilts I’ve made. I got the black background fruity fabric a few years because I loved it. Black, red, yellow, green, fruits, white flowers — what’s not to like? Basic Irish chain pattern. I did a hand blanket stitch around the appliques and random cross stitches in the embroidered cherries. No stamped Xs. I love to do embroidery. I’m going to boast here, I think that embroidery and “inventive” primitive applique may be the thing that I am the most creative at. Just cut and whack shapes and leave the raw edges and add some simple embroidery with either DMC floss or pearl cotton. Suzanne basted the layers on her machine and then I did utility quilting. The shadowy stuff around the cherries isn’t where fabric bled or where I bled. I inked cherry sayings — Life is just a bowl of cherries, I gave my love a cherry, the word cherry in Arabic and a few other languages. Good grief, I can’t even remember what all is on there. But I did have a lot of fun with this quilt. I just wish that I had worked harder to find a darker red pen. You have to get your nose up to it to read it.

Did I mention that I love this quilt?
