Just Another Day

Nothing special going on today. It has seemed odd this week to not need to spend time at the shop helping Suzanne get Knots & Bolts ready. Lucky dog, she gets to hang out there every day. Maybe I should start going into work extra early so I can get back to town extra early and bug Suzanne at the shop for 1/2 hour at least. The going into work extra early part is the challenge. Leaving work early I have no problem with.

I am unofficially doing a Knitting Olympics challenge, I cast on during the opening ceremonies and hopefully I will cast off before the games are over. With the project I picked I’ll be lucky if I cast off during the closing ceremony. Cat Bordhi has a felted bag in Clara Parkes’ The Knitter’s Book of Yarn. This book is a valuable resource — “The Ultimate Guide to Choosing, Using, and Enjoying Yarn”. It’s all about yarn, from where it comes from, to how it’s made, spun, dyed, the best uses for different yarns, and more. As a bonus, it has wonderful patterns. One of my favorites is Cat Bordhi’s Calla Lily Bag which I chose to have it be my Olympic project. I’m using Cascade 220 in an off white. I will probably use 4 skeins which goes a long ways toward letting you know how big this bag is going to be before felting. I read the pattern ahead of time, but after I cast on and got started I got to wishing I’d read it a little more thoroughly and realized just how long it might take. I got a little panicky, thinking that it was looking really complicated. But now that I’ve gotten it underway, it’s not so hard after all. The construction is unusual, but I think I’ve got it figured it out. So even though I’ve got miles of knitting to do and may not win any medals, it will be a beautiful bag eventually.

I’m writing tonight right before going to bed so that I can link to this wonderful blog that I read about on Suzanne’s blog (Suzanne is at saltcreekquilts.wordpress.com).

Hey look, I found Carla’s link after I saved it! Beautiful free form crochet and quilts. I’m on my way back over to her blog to look around some more.

good night.
